Day 6: Avocado To Go!

Steve:  I knew exactly what Heather wanted when she chose this ingredient.  The only thing was to use it in a way that would add to the creativity.

Day 6 Ingredient:  Avocado

This yummy green fruit has to be ripe in order to use it, so make sure that you can find ones that are black rather than green if you want to use it immediately.  Otherwise, buy green ones, leave them out of the refrigerator for a day or two until if feels a bit mushy.  Then you are ready to go.

One other hint about avocado.  It is a rare instance that it should be cooked.  I have yet to taste a cooked avocado that tastes half decent, so I would say to you, dice it up or slice it up and add it to sandwiches, salads, or other dishes.

With that being said, there is one sure fire way to use avocado that will be sure to please and it is the perfect way Heather wants it.  I knew I would have to make it today, so lets get started.

Day 6 Ingredients:

4 Ripe Avocados
2 Diced Roma Tomatoes
1 Fine Diced Fresh Jalepeno
2 Minced Cloves Garlic
1/4 Diced Red Onion
Juice of 1 Lime
2 TBSP Chopped Cilantro
2 tsp Cumin
1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
salt and pepper to taste
1 Serving Deli Turkey Breast
1 Tortilla Wrap
1 slice Provolone Cheese (no pic)

Instructions

1.  Combine all Ingredients except Turkey, Tortilla and Cheese in a mixing bowl and mash avocado until guacamole is formed.

2.  On tortilla put 2 Tablespoons of guacamole, 1 serving of Turkey Breast and slice of cheese.  Add a dash of hot sauce if desired.  Roll to form wrap.

Here is what you get:

Day 6 Meal:  Turkey and Guacamole Wrap

First, I called this Avocado To Go, because a friend came over and grabbed one of these wraps for lunch.  They are easy to take with you and it held together pretty well which is amazing because I am usually very bad at putting things like this together.  I thought the wrap was pretty good.  The flavors were all there and I liked the apple with it.  However there was a bit of a problem.

The guacamole was WRONG.  The recipe here is not wrong, but for some reason I added too much salt and too much onion today.  That isn't like me, but when I tasted the guacamole on a salty chip I could tell it was too much.  I don't think it affected the wrap as much because there wasn't salt on the tortilla, but on the chips it wasn't good.  I think Heather is gonna kill me for this one.

Heather:
Taste-4.5 stars: Creativity-3 stars

Ordinarily, I would give the guacamole alone 5 stars because it is usually awesome! Not sure what happened today, it was definitely salty and oniony. I still taste onion. It wasn't too salty in the wrap, but later I had it with chips and it was a bit much. I liked it in the wrap with turkey and cheese, paired with apples. I only gave 3 stars for creativity because even though I'm delighted he made guacamole, I thought maybe he would attempt to make something different. And what really shocks me is he shared the coveted recipe!!
